Assignment #5: Reducing Stress
The stress reduction technique I have chosen is lessening the amount of procrastinating I usually do. When I saw this prompt the first time, I knew it would be a good way to see just how much of a difference I can make when I simply do things ahead of time. I have chosen to focus this stress reducer specifically on my school work, for that is what can stress me out the most. To begin this technique I decided I would do things that day they were assigned, or days before they were due. This Summer, I am taking this class (plus the lab), and an online Anthropology class. Both of these classes have a set schedule that may or may not change, but I usually know when an assignment is coming up. So this stress reducing technique was perfect to try out during these classes. I have done all my assignments early for both classes, especially my Anthro. class. I have motivated myself by reminding myself I will have extra time at the end of the week, when I will not have to think about school at all. The small reward at the end of each week is what kept me going. I must say, I felt more on top of things ever since I have been doing this. Physically, I felt more free to do whatever it is that I wanted to do, for all my assignments and projects were finished early. Emotionally and spiritually, I felt very calm and at peace, for everything that I needed to do has been done. Mentally speaking, I felt as though I had much more organized thoughts. I felt that if I continue to practice this, I can do anything. Yes, I feel that this technique has reduced my stress a lot. I am a bit of a worry wart, so getting things done and being proactive lowered my stress level tremendously. I will continue to do this, and hopefully I won't ever stop.

Hey Natalie, Im glad you found a way to lower the stress factor. I too Tried to complete any school task as soon as I can and not to wait till the last day to cram my work in. I also felt better about myself and knowing that my school work was dine ahead of time. At the end of the week or by the weekend it is nice to know all you have to do is some studing and not have to stress about what needs to be done by monday. The weekneds are better this way, haha. Good job Natalie.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently working on procrastination! I find that doing the assignment the day they are assigned helps out a lot because you get it out of the way and it helps relieve the stress because you can take your time with the assignment instead of rushing or losing sleep because you have to get it done and your doing it the day before or the day it is due! This is definitely a good way to help reduce stress. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I usually try to do my assignments as soon as they are assigned and have them out of the way so I could focus on other things, rather than just do them all at once a few days before they are due. A great way to feel less stressed and have things done!
ReplyDeleteSo very true I used to never be a procrastinator but this last semester there is just so much more i rather be doing.
ReplyDeleteI honestly wish I could get things done ahead of time like you! I'm one of those extreme procrastinators, but I like the stress that I feel when I know I have to get something done ASAP. The relief for me afterwards is just as good; although this might not be very healthy for me, it's very satisfying and I even think I do better when I pressure myslef.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was the queen of procrastanation nice to hear someone also shares my pain. I think that not procrastaning is the best thing you can do to eliminate stress your feeling. Good suggestion on coping with school work to do assignment ahead of time instead of waiting last minute.
ReplyDeleteI've always felt I needed to work on my procrastination, but I just figured I would do it later. School is a big one for me also. For the past couple semesters I have been doing assignments as soon as I could and that has made a huge difference. I also concentrate on something I really want to do, like going to the track, and I find that I have plenty of motivation to get things done. Often times I'll do an assignment so far ahead of time that when it's due I go into a very short mini panic until I remember I've already completed it. I guess that's another thing to work on.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really great technique to try out! Organization is a huge stress reducer and it really makes you just feel more in control of your life.
ReplyDeleteI really like this stress reducer. I myself was once a chronic procrastinator always waiting to the last moment to finsh assignments. Mastering procrasination is all about managing your time and overcroming it requires alot of commitment.
ReplyDeleteHey I like your plan that you did and know to make time for each day of school. I do the same thing but some times is not essy because I go to work to babysit and them they call me to go to other place and i get late home and do homework late and not to much sleep and it takes some time off. But am working on it.
